The time of luxury and deceit is one hour; but the hour of torment has the power of thirty days. If, then, someone lives in luxury and is deceived for one day, and is tormented for one day, the day of torment is worth a whole year. The one who lives in luxury and deceit for one day and does what he wishes is clothed in much folly and does not understand what he is doing; for the next day he forgets what he did the day before; for luxury and deceit have no memories because of the folly they are clothed in. Do you think, then, that the sins of those who repent are forgiven at once?

After I had written down the commandments and parables of the shepherd, the angel of repentance, he came to me and said to me, “I wish to show you all that the Holy Spirit showed you, who spoke with you in the form of the church; for that Spirit is the Son of God.
Notes and citation
Summary: The Spirit who spoke as the church is the Son of God.
- “That Spirit is the Son of God”: as in Sim. 5.6.5, Hermas identifies the divine Spirit with the Son; his language about Son and Spirit is not yet the later, precise language of the Trinity.

For since you were weaker in the flesh, it was not made clear to you through an angel. But when you were strengthened through the Spirit and grew strong in your strength, so that you could see even an angel, then the building of the tower was made manifest to you through the church. You saw everything well and reverently, as from a virgin. But now you see through an angel, though by the same Spirit;
Notes and citation
Summary: Hermas, now strengthened, sees through an angel what he saw before through the church.
