This Valentinus, then, follows in time those set out before him, Basilides and Saturnilus, and Ebion and Cerinthus and Merinthus and their followers. For all these grew up evilly in life at one time, though those around Cerinthus, Merinthus and Ebion were a little earlier; for they sprang up together with those I have already described before them.

Notes and citation

Summary: Valentinus came after Basilides, Saturnilus, Ebion and Cerinthus, who were roughly contemporary.

After this Silence, bringing forth a natural unity of Light with Man (their coming together was the act of will), brings forth Truth. The other order of human beings in the world, which they call psychic, cannot be saved by itself unless it saves itself by labour and just conduct.
