βασανιζόμενος οὖν καὶ τιμωρούμενος ὅλον τὸν ἐνιαυτόν, μνημονεύει τότε τῆς τρυφῆς καὶ ἀπάτης καὶ γινώσκει, ὅτι διʼ αὐτὰ πάσχει τὰ πονηρά. πᾶς οὖν ἄνθρωπος ὁ τρυφῶν καὶ ἀπατώμενος οὕτω βασανίζεται, ὅτι ἔχοντες ζωὴν εἰς θάνατον ἑαυτοὺς παραδεδώκασι.

English · Claude translation

Being tormented and punished, then, for a whole year, he then remembers the luxury and deceit and knows that it is because of them that he suffers these evils. Every person, then, who lives in luxury and deceit is tormented in this way, because having life they have handed themselves over to death.”
