λιτὸν μὲν γὰρ αὐτὸν καὶ κοινὸν ἡγοῦντο κατὰ προκοπὴν ἤθους αὐτὸ μόνον ἄνθρωπον δεδικαιωμένον, ἐξ ἀνδρός τε κοινωνίας καὶ τῆς Μαρίας γεγεννημένον· δεῖν δὲ πάντως αὐτοῖς νομικῆς θρησκείας, ὡς μὴ ἂν διὰ μόνης τῆς εἰς τὸν Χριστὸν πίστεως καὶ τοῦ κατʼ αὐτὴν βίου σωθησομένοις.

English · Claude translation

For they regarded him as plain and ordinary, a mere man justified by progress in character, born of the union of a man and Mary; and they held that the observance of the law was altogether necessary for them, since they would not be saved by faith in Christ alone and a life in accordance with it.
