Τίς οὖν εἰς τὴν γῆν εἰσήγαγε τοὺς πατέρας ὑμῶν; Ἤδη ποτὲ νοήσατε ὅτι ὁ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ ἐπονομασθεὶς Ἰησοῦς, πρότερον Αὐσῆς καλούμενος. Εἰ γὰρ τοῦτο νοήσετε, καὶ ὅτι τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ τοῦ εἰπόντος τῷ Μωσεῖ· τὸ γὰρ ὄνομά μου ἐστὶν ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, Ἰησοῦς ἦν, ἐπιγνώσεσθε. Καὶ γὰρ καὶ Ἰσραὴλ αὐτὸς ἦν καλούμενος, καὶ τὸν Ἰακὼβ τούτῳ τῷ ὀνόματι ὁμοίως μετωνομάκει.

English · Claude translation

“Who, then, brought your fathers into the land? Understand at last that it was he who was given this name Jesus, having formerly been called Hoshea. For if you understand this, you will also recognize that the name of the one who said to Moses, ‘for my name is upon him,’ was Jesus. For he was also called Israel, and he likewise renamed Jacob with this name.
