Κἀγὼ ἔφην· Ὦ Τρύφων, εἰ μὲν καὶ τὴν προφητείαν, ἣν ἔφη Ἡσαΐας, οὔ φησι πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Δαυΐδ· Ἰδοὺ ἡ παρθένος ἐν γαστρὶ λήψεται· ἀλλὰ πρὸς ἕτερον οἶκον τῶν δώδεκα φυλῶν, ἴσως ἂν ἀπορίαν εἶχε τὸ πρᾶγμα· ἐπειδὴ δὲ καὶ αὐτὴ ἡ προφητεία πρὸς τὸν οἶκον Δαυῒδ εἴρηται, τὸ εἰρημένον πρὸς Δαυῒδ ὑπὸ θεοῦ ἐν μυστηρίῳ διὰ Ἡσαΐου ὡς ἔμελλε γίνεσθαι ἐξηγήθη· εἰ μήτι τοῦτο οὐκ ἐπίστασθε, ὦ φίλοι, ἔφην, ὅτι πολλοὺς λόγους, τοὺς ἐπικεκαλυμμένως καὶ ἐν παραβολαῖς ἢ μυστηρίοις ἢ ἐν συμβόλοις ἔργων λελεγμένους, οἱ μετʼ ἐκείνους τοὺς εἰπόντας ἢ πράξαντας γενόμενοι προφῆται ἐξηγήσαντο.

And I said, “Trypho, if the prophecy which Isaiah spoke, ‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive,’ were not spoken to the house of David, but to another house of the twelve tribes, the matter would perhaps be perplexing; but since this very prophecy was spoken to the house of David, what was spoken to David by God in a mystery was explained through Isaiah as it was to come about; unless you do not know this, friends,” I said, “that many words spoken in a veiled way and in parables or mysteries or in symbolic actions were explained by the prophets who came after those who said or did them.”
