English · Claude translation

“For on earth he did the same; when someone said to him, ‘Good Teacher,’ he answered, ‘Why do you call me good? One is good, my Father who is in heaven.’ And his saying, ‘I am a worm and no man, a reproach of men and despised by the people,’ foretold what is seen both to be and to happen to him. For we who believe in him are a reproach everywhere; and ‘despised by the people,’ because, despised and dishonored by your people, he suffered what you inflicted on him.

Notes

Translation notes

  • Justin's form of the saying (“my Father who is in heaven”) differs from all the canonical Gospels.

Notes on the original text

  • Digital text corrected (digitization slip against Archambault's printed text (wrong breathing)): Εἶς ἐστιν ἀγαθός → Εἷς ἐστιν ἀγαθός.
