Refutation of All Heresies 9.12.2

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Οὗ ταῦτα πράξαντος, οὐκ ἔλιπεν ὃς ἀπαγγείλῃ τῷ Καρποφόρῳ· ὁ δὲ ἔφη ἀπαιτεῖν λόγους παρʼ αὐτοῦ. Ταῦτα συνιδὼν ὁ Κάλλιστος καὶ τὸν παρὰ τοῦ δεσπότου κίνδυνον ὑφορώμενος, ἀπέδρα τὴν φυγὴν κατὰ θάλασσαν ποιούμενος· ὃς εὑρὼν πλοῖον ἐν τῷ Πόρτῳ ἕτοιμον πρὸς ἀναγωγήν, ὅπου ἐτύγχανε πλέον, ἀνέβη πλευσόμενος. Ἀλλʼ οὐδὲ οὕτως λαθεῖν δεδύνηται· οὐ γὰρ ἔλιπεν ὃς ἀπαγγείλῃ τῷ Καρποφόρῳ τὸ γεγενημένον.

When he had done this, there was someone to report it to Carpophorus; and he said he would demand an account from him. Callistus, seeing this and suspecting danger from his master, ran away, making his escape by sea.
