Refutation of All Heresies 8.10.11

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Οἱ μὲν οὖν ἐκ τῶν ὑποκάτω τόπων τὴν φύσιν ἔχοντες τὰς ὑπὲρ αὐτοὺς ἰδέας τοῦ σωτῆρος ἰδεῖν οὐ δύνανται, οἱ δὲ ἄνωθεν, φησίν, ἀπὸ τῆς δεκάδος τῆς μέσης καὶ τῆς ὀγδοάδος τῆς ἀρίστης, ὅθεν ἐσμὲν ἡμεῖς, λέγουσιν, οὐκ ἐκ μέρους, ἀλλʼ ὅλον αὐτοὶ τὸν Ἰησοῦν τὸν σωτῆρα ἴσασι, καὶ εἰσὶν ἄνωθεν τέλειοι μόνοι, οἱ δὲ ἄλλοι πάντες ἐκ μέρους.

Those, then, who have their nature from the places below cannot see the forms of the Savior above them; but those from above, he says, from the middle decad and the best ogdoad, from which, they say, we come, know Jesus the Savior not in part but whole, and they alone are perfect from above, while all the others know in part.
