Refutation of All Heresies 7.31.1

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: Hippolytus turns to a newer Marcionite, Prepon the Assyrian, who wrote against Bardesanes.

English · Claude translation

The first and purest heresy of Marcion, then, which has its constitution from good and evil, has been shown by us to be Empedocles'. But since in our own times a certain Marcionite, Prepon the Assyrian, has now attempted something newer, having written discourses about the heresy addressed to Bardesanes the Armenian, I shall not pass over this in silence either.
