Refutation of All Heresies 6.18.3
Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.
Summary: From one root, Silence, come a male Mind above and a female Thought below, with Air between them.
English · Claude translation
The writing is this: there are two offshoots of all the Aeons, having neither beginning nor end, from one root, which is a power, Silence, invisible, incomprehensible. Of these one appears from above, which is great Power, Mind of all things, governing all things, male; and the other from below, great Thought, female, begetting all things. Thence, corresponding to one another, they form a pair, and they display the interval between them, incomprehensible Air, having neither beginning nor end.
