Refutation of All Heresies 5.9.4

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Πνευματικὴ γὰρ, φησίν, ἐστὶ τῶν τελείων ἡ προσκύνησις, οὐ σαρκική. Τὸ δὲ πνεῦμα, φησίν, ἐκεῖ ὅπου καὶ ὁ πατήρ, ὀνομάζεται καὶ ὁ υἱός, ἐκ τούτου τοῦ πατρὸς [ἐκεῖ] γεννώμενος. Οὗτος, φησίν, ἐστὶν ὁ πολυώνυμος μυριόμματος ἀκατάληπτος, οὗ πᾶσα φύσις, ἄλλη δὲ ἄλλως ὀρέγεται.

For the worship of the perfect, he says, is spiritual, not fleshly. And the Spirit, he says, is there where the Father too is named and the Son, begotten [there] from this Father.
