Refutation of All Heresies 4.48.14

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: Another constellation group, Cepheus and his family, teaches the same lesson.

English · Claude translation

And he himself, he says, is watched at the head by the Serpent-holder. This image, he says, stands in heaven, being a kind of wisdom to those able to see. And if it is unclear in this respect, creation teaches us to philosophize, he says, through another image, about which Aratus has spoken thus: "Nor, then, the toiling race of Cepheus son of Iasus."
