nor the charlatanry in church assemblies which he contrives, courting glory and making a show, and astounding the souls of the simpler with such things: preparing for himself a tribunal and lofty throne, unlike a disciple of Christ, and having and calling it a secretum, like the rulers of the world; striking his thigh with his hand and stamping on the tribunal with his feet; and rebuking and insulting those who do not applaud or wave their handkerchiefs as in the theatres, nor shout and leap up like his partisans, men and silly women, who listen so disorderly — those, that is, who listen reverently and in good order as in the house of God; and behaving insolently in public toward the interpreters of the word who have departed this life, and boasting about himself, as if he were not a bishop but a sophist and a charlatan;
