καὶ πάλιν μετὰ βραχέα φησίν ‟ὁ διὰ δειλίαν καὶ φιλοζωίαν ἐν τῷ ‘καιρῷ τῆς διώξεως πρεσβύτερον εἶναι ἑαυτὸν ἀρνησάμενος. ἀξιούμενος γὰρ καὶ παρακαλούμενος ὑπὸ ‟τῶν διακόνων, ἵνʼ ἐξελθὼν τοῦ οἰκίσκου, ἐν ᾧ ‟καθεῖρξεν ἑαυτὸν, βοηθήσῃ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς ὅσα ‘θέμις καὶ ὅσα δυνατὸν πρεσβυτέρῳ ‟ἀδελφοῖς καὶ ἐπικουρίας δεομένοις βοηθεῖν, τοσοῦ- ‟τον ἀπέσχε τοῦ πειθαρχῆσαι παρακαλοῦσι τοῖς δια- ‘κόνοις ὡς καὶ χαλεπαίνοντα ἀπιέναι καὶ “τεσθαι· μὴ γὰρ ἔτι βούλεσθαι πρεσβύτερος εἶναι “ἔφη· ἑτέρας γὰρ εἶναι φιλοσοφίας ἐραστής.”

And again shortly after he says: “He who in the time of persecution, through cowardice and love of life, denied that he was a presbyter. For when he was asked and urged by the deacons to come out of the chamber in which he had shut himself up and help the brothers, as far as is lawful and possible for a presbyter to help brothers in danger and in need of aid, he was so far from obeying the deacons who urged him that he even went away angry and departed; for he said he no longer wished to be a presbyter, being a lover of another philosophy.”
