πολλῶν δὲ ἔστιν εὐπο- “ρῆσαι, διὰ τὸ φιλοτίμως ἐγγεγράφθαι τοὺς μαθητὰς “αὐτῶν τὰ ὑφʼ ἑκάστου αὐτῶν, ὡς αὐτοὶ καλοῦσι, ‘κατωρθωμένα, τουτʼ ἔστιν ἠφανισμένα. πάλιν δὲ τούτοις τὰ Ἑρμοφίλου οὐ συνᾴδει. τὰ γὰρ Ἀπολλωνί- ‘δου οὐδὲ αὐτὰ ἑαυτοῖς ἐστι σύμφωνα. ἔνεστι συγκρῖναι τὰ πρότερον ὑπʼ αὐτῶν κατασκευασθέντα “τοῖς ὕστερον πάλιν ἐπιδιαστραφεῖσι, καὶ εὑρεῖν “πολὺ ἀπᾴδοντα.

Many of these can be obtained, because their disciples have zealously copied what each of them has, as they call it, “corrected,” that is, destroyed. Again, those of Hermophilus do not agree with these; and those of Apollonides are not even consistent with themselves. For one can compare those prepared by them earlier with those they later perverted further, and find them very discordant.
