“ἀλλὰ τίς οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ “πρόσφατος διδάσκαλος τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ διδα- “σκαλία δείκνυσιν. οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ διδάξας λύσεις “γάμων, ὁ νηστείας νομοθετήσας, ὁ Πέπουζαν καὶ Τύμιον Ἰερουσαλὴμ ὀνομάσας πόλεις δέ εἰσιν αὗ- ‘ται μικραὶ τῆς Φρυγίας), τοὺς πανταχόθεν ἐκεῖ ῾συναγαγεῖν ἐθέλων, ὁ πρακτῆρας χρημάτων ‘στήσας, ὁ ἐπʼ ὀνόματι προσφορῶν τὴν δωροληψίαν “ἐπιτεχνώμενος, ὁ σαλάρια χορηγῶν τοῖς κηρύττου- “σιν αὐτοῦ τὸν λόγον, ἵνα διὰ τῆς γαστριμαργίας ἡ διδασκαλία τοῦ λόγου κρατύνηται.’’

“But who this new teacher is, his works and his teaching show. This is he who taught the dissolution of marriages, who made laws about fasting, who named Pepuza and Tymion, small towns in Phrygia, Jerusalem, wishing to gather people there from everywhere; who appointed collectors of money, who contrived the receiving of gifts under the name of offerings, who provides salaries for those who preach his doctrine, so that the teaching of his word may gain strength through gluttony.”
