Τραϊανοῦ δὲ ἐφʼ ὅλοις ἔτεσιν εἴκοσι τὴν ἀρχὴν μησὶν ἕξ δέουσι κρατήσαντος Αἴλιος Ἀδριανὸς διαδέχεται τὴν ἡγεμονίαν. τούτῳ Κοδρᾶτος λόγον προσφωνήσας ἀναδίδωσιν, ἀπολογίαν συντάξας ὑπὲρ τῆς καθʼ ἡμὰς θεοσεβείας, ὅτι δὴ πονηροί τινες ἄνδρες τοὺς ἡμετέρους ἐνοχλεῖν ἐπειρῶντο. εἰσέτι δὲ φέρεται παρὰ πλείστοις τῶν ἀδελφῶν, ἀτὰρ καὶ παρʼ ἡμῖν τὸ σύγγραμμα, ἐξ οὗ κατιδεῖν ἔστι λαμπρὰ τεκμήρια τῆς τε τοῦ ἀνδρὸς διανοίας καὶ τῆς ἀποστολικῆς ὀρθοτομίας.

After Trajan had held power for twenty years less six months, Aelius Hadrian succeeded to the rule. To him Quadratus addressed and delivered a discourse, having composed an apology for our religion, because certain wicked men were trying to trouble our people. The work is still extant among very many of the brothers, and in our own possession too, from which one may see clear proofs of the man's intelligence and apostolic orthodoxy.
