τούτου δὲ ἐπὶ τῷ διαπρεπεῖ θανάτῳ τὸ πό πλῆθος ἀποθαυμάσαν τῆς ἀνδρείας τὸν θεοφιλῆ μάρ τυρα καὶ τὴν καθόλου τοῦ γένους τῶν Χριστιανο ἀρετὴν, ἀθρόως ἐπιβοᾶν ἄρξασθαι “αἶρε τοὺς ἀθέους ζητείσθω Πολύκαρπος.’’

At his distinguished death the whole multitude, marvelling at the courage of the God-loving martyr and at the virtue of the whole race of Christians, began to shout all together, ‘Away with the atheists! Let Polycarp be sought!’
