ποίᾳ δὲ πόλει; ἢ τῇδε τῇ νεοπαγεῖ καὶ θεοτεύκτῳ; ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐκκλησία θεοῦ ζῶντος, στῦλος καὶ ἑδραίωμα τῆς ἀληθείας, περὶ ἧς καὶ ἄλλο τι θεῖον λόγιον ὧδέ πως εὐαγγελίζεται “δεδοξασμένα ἐλαλήθη περὶ σοῦ, ἡ πόλις τοῦ θεοῦ, ” ἐφʼ ἣν τοῦ παναγάθου συγκροτήσαντος ἡμάς θεοῦ διὰ τῆς τοῦ μονογενοῦς αὐτοῦ χάριτος, τῶν ἀνακεκλημένων ἕκαστος ὑμνείτω μονονουχὶ βοῶν καὶ λέγων “εὐφράνθην ἐπὶ τοῖς εἰρηκόσι μοι· εἰς οἶκον κυρίου πορευσόμεθα, ’’ καὶ “κύριε, ἠγάπησα εὐπρέπειαν οἴκου σου, καὶ τόπον σκηνώματος δόξης σου.’’

In what city? Is it not this newly built city, made by God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth, concerning which another divine saying also proclaims good news thus: “Glorious things have been spoken of you, city of God”? Since the all-good God has gathered us together into it through the grace of his only-begotten, let each of those who have been called sing, all but crying aloud and saying: “I was glad when they said to me, We will go to the house of the Lord,” and “Lord, I have loved the beauty of your house and the place where your glory dwells.”
