καὶ μὴν οὐδʼ ὑποβεβηκότων ἀγγέλων καὶ λειτουργῶν θεοῦ τὰς ἀναγραφείσας θεοφανείας ὑπονοεῖν θέμις, ἐπεὶ καὶ τούτων ὅταν τις ἀνθρώποις παραφαίνηται, οὐκ ἐπικρύπτεται ἡ γραφὴ, ὀνομαστὶ οὐ θεὸν, οὐδὲ μὴν κύριον, ἀλλʼ ἀγγέλους χρηματίσαι λέγουσα, ὡς διὰ μυρίων μαρτυριῶν πιστώσασθαι ῥᾴδιον.

English · Claude translation

Nor indeed is it right to suppose that the recorded appearances of God were of subordinate angels and ministers of God; for whenever one of these appears to men, Scripture does not conceal it but says by name that they were called, not God, nor Lord, but angels, as it is easy to confirm by countless testimonies.
