Attribution
pseudonymous · Anonymous. Part of the Acts of Peter, which Eusebius (Hist. eccl. 3.3.2) rejects as not among the books handed down. It is not part of the 66-book canon. The Acts of Peter are generally dated to the late second century (ca. 180-200; confidence: approximate); the Greek original is lost except for the Martyrdom, and most of the earlier chapters survive only in this Latin version, preserved in a single damaged seventh-century manuscript (Codex Vercellensis CVIII), called the Actus Vercellenses.
Standing
Not honoured as a saint or in a church calendar by the Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant traditions. Eusebius rejects it as not apostolic and Manichees used it, but its story of Peter was used by church writers (Origen in Eusebius, Hist. eccl. 3.1).
Date
