inde adeo pleni et mixti deo uates futura praecerpunt, dant cautelam periculis, morbis medellam, spem adflictis, opem miseris, solacium calamitatibus, laboribus leuamentum. etiam per quietem deos uidemus, audimus, agnoscimus, quos impie per diem negamus, nolumus, peieramus.

Hence, then, prophets filled with and mingled with the god pluck the future beforehand, give warning of dangers, healing to diseases, hope to the afflicted, help to the wretched, comfort in calamities, relief in labours. Even in sleep we see, hear, and recognize the gods whom by day we impiously deny, refuse, and forswear.
