Ἐπὶ ποσὸν δὲ ὁ Τρύφων ἐπισχών· Ὁρᾷς, ἔφη, ὅτι οὐκ ἀπὸ ἐπιτηδεύσεως γέγονεν ἐν τούτοις ἡμᾶς συμβαλεῖν. Καὶ ὅτι ἐξαιρέτως ἥσθην τῇ συνουσίᾳ, ὁμολογῶ, καὶ τούτους δὲ οἶμαι ὁμοίως ἐμοὶ διατεθεῖσθαι· πλέον γὰρ εὕρομεν ἢ προσεδοκῶμεν καὶ προσδοκηθῆναί ποτε δυνατὸν ἦν. Εἰ δὲ συνεχέστερον ἦν τοῦτο ποιεῖν ἡμᾶς, μᾶλλον ἂν ὠφεληθεῖμεν, ἐξετάζοντες αὐτοὺς τοὺς λόγους· ἀλλʼ ἐπειδή, φησί, πρὸς τῇ ἀναγωγῇ εἶ καὶ καθʼ ἡμέραν πλοῦν ποιεῖσθαι προσδοκᾷς, μὴ ὄκνει ὡς φίλων ἡμῶν μεμνῆσθαι ἐὰν ἀπαλλαγῇς.

After a while Trypho said, “You see that it was not by design that we met to discuss these things.
