πάροδός ἐστε τῶν εἰς θεὸν ἀναιρουμένων, Παύλου συμμύσται τοῦ ἡγιασμένου, τοῦ μεμαρτυρημένου, ἀξιομακαρίστου, οὗ γένοιτό μοι ὑπὸ τὰ ἴχνη εὑρεθῆναι, ὅταν θεοῦ ἐπιτύχω, ὃς ἐν πάσῃ ἐπιστολῇ μνημονεύει ὑμῶν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ.

## English translation (Claude)

You are the highway for those who are being killed for God's sake; fellow initiates with Paul, who was sanctified, who was martyred, worthy of all blessing, in whose footsteps may I be found when I attain to God, who in every letter remembers you in Christ Jesus.

- “Highway” (πάροδος): martyrs from the East passed through Ephesus on the way to Rome, as Paul had (Acts 20).
- “Who was martyred” (τοῦ μεμαρτυρημένου): or “who was well attested.”
- “In every letter”: an overstatement; or perhaps “in all his letter,” meaning Paul's letter to the Ephesians.
