πάλιν δʼ ἂν ἑτέρους εἶδες, πέντε γὰρ οἱ πάντες ἐτύγχανον, ἠγριωμένῳ ταύρῳ παραβληθέντας, ὃς τοὺς μὲν ἄλλους τῶν ἔξωθεν προσιόντων τοῖς κέρασιν εἰς τὸν ἀέρα ῥίπτων διεσπάραττεν, ἡμιθνῆτας αἴρεσθαι καταλιπὼν, ἐπὶ μόνους δὲ θυμῷ καὶ ἀπειλῇ τοὺς ἱεροὺς ὁρμῶν μάρτυρας οὐδὲ πλησιάζειν αὐτοῖς οἷός τε ἦν, κυρίττων δὲ τοῖς ποσὶ καὶ τοῖς τῇδε κἀκεῖσε χρώμενος καὶ διὰ τοὺς ἀπὸ τῶν καυτήρων ἐρεθισμοὺς θυμοῦ καὶ ἀπειλῆς πνέων εἰς τοὐπίσω πρὸς τῆς ἱερᾶς ἀνθείλκετο προνοίας, ὡς μηδὲ τούτου μηδὲν μηδαμῶς αὐτοὺς ἀδικήσαντος, ἕτερα ἄττα αὐτοῖς ἐπαφίεσθαι θηρία.

Again, you might have seen others (there were five in all) thrown to a maddened bull. With its horns it tossed into the air and tore apart the others who approached from outside, leaving them to be carried off half dead; but when it rushed with fury and threat at the holy martyrs alone, it was not even able to come near them. It pawed the ground with its feet and tossed its horns this way and that, breathing fury and threat because of the goading of the hot irons, yet it was drawn back by holy Providence; so that, since it did them no harm whatever, other beasts were let loose on them.
