ἰατρῶν δʼ οὖν οἱ μὲν οὐδʼ ὅλως ὑπομεῖναι τὴν τοῦ δυσώδους ὑπερβάλλουσαν ἀτοπίαν οἷοί τε κατεσφάττοντο, οἱ δὲ διῳδηκότος τοῦ παντὸς ὄγκου καὶ εἰς ἀνέλπιστον σωτηρίας ἀποπεπτωκότος μηδὲν ἐπικουρεῖν δυνάμενοι ἀνηλεῶς ἐκτείνοντο.

Of the physicians, some, wholly unable to bear the surpassing foulness of the stench, were put to death; others, since the whole mass had swollen and fallen into a state beyond hope of recovery, and they could give no help, were killed without mercy.
