καὶ γὰρ εἴ τι ταῦτʼ ἐχρῆν κατὰ θείαν γενέσθαι κρίσιν, ἀλλὰ οὐαὶ, φησὶν ὁ λόγος, διʼ οὗ τὸ σκάνδαλον ἔρχεται. μέτεισι γοῦν αὐτὸν θεήλατος κόλασις, ἐξ αὐτῆς αὐτοῦ καταρξαμένη σαρκὸς, καὶ μέχρι τῆς ψυχῆς προελθοῦσα.

English · Claude translation

For even if these things had to happen by divine judgment, yet, as the word says, “woe to him through whom the offense comes.” So a punishment sent by God pursued him, beginning in his very flesh and advancing even to his soul.
