τῆς δʼ ἐν Λαοδικείᾳ παροικίας ἡγήσατο μετὰ Σωκράτην Εὐσέβιος, ἀπὸ Ἀλεξανδρέων ὁρμηθεὶς πόλεως. αἰτία δʼ αὐτῷ τῆς μεταναστάσεως ὑπῆρξεν ἡ κατὰ τὸν Παῦλον ὑπόθεσις, διʼ ὃν τῆς Συρίας ἐπιβὰς πρὸς τῶν τῇδε περὶ τὰ θεῖα ἐσπουδακότων τῆς οἴκαδε πορείας εἴργεται, ἐπέραστόν τι θεοσεβείας χρῆμα τῶν καθʼ ἡμὰς γενόμενος, ὡς καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν παρατεθεισῶν Διονυσίου φωνῶν διαγνῶναι ῥᾴδιον.

English · Claude translation

Eusebius, who came from the city of the Alexandrians, led the community at Laodicea after Socrates. The cause of his move was the affair of Paul; having come to Syria on his account, he was kept by those there who were zealous for divine things from returning home. He was a lovable example of piety among the men of our time, as can easily be seen also from the words of Dionysius quoted above.
