ἐγὼ “δὲ ἀθετῆσαι μὲν οὐκ ἂν τολμήσαιμι τὸ βιβλίον, “πολλῶν αὐτὸ διὰ σπουδῆς ἐχόντων ἀδελφῶν, μεί- “ζονα δὲ τῆς ἐμαυτοῦ φρονήσεως τὴν ὑπόληψιν τὴν “περὶ αὐτοῦ λαμβάνων, κεκρυμμένην εἶναί τινα καὶ “θαυμασιωτέραν τὴν καθʼ ἕκαστον ἐκδοχὴν ὑπολαμ- “βάνω. καὶ γὰρ εἰ μὴ συνίημι, ἀλλʼ ὑπονοῶ γε νοῦν “τινὰ βαθύτερον ἐγκεῖσθαι τοῖς ῥήμασιν.

But I would not dare to reject the book, since many brothers hold it in esteem; but, taking my opinion of it to be beyond my own understanding, I suppose the interpretation of each part to be hidden and more wonderful.
