ἀλλὰ καὶ πρότερον τοῦ κατὰ Δέκιον προτεθέντος “διωγμοῦ Σαβῖνος αὐτῆς ὥρας φρουμεντάριον ἔπεμ- “ψεν εἰς ἀναζήτησίν μου, κἀγὼ μὲν τεσσάρων ἡμε- “ρῶν ἐπὶ τῆς οἰκίας ἔμεινα, τὴν ἄφιξιν τοῦ φρου- “μενταρίου προσδοκῶν. ὁ δὲ πάντα μὲν περιῆλθεν “ἀνερευνῶν, τοὺς ποταμοὺς, τὰς ὁδοὺς, τοὺς ἀγροὺς, “ἔνθα κρύπτεσθαί με ἢ βαδίζειν ὑπενόησεν, ἀορασίᾳ δὲ εἴχετο, μὴ εὑρίσκων τὴν οἰκίαν· οὐ γὰρ ἐπίστευ- “σεν οἴκοι με διωκόμενον ἔχειν.

Even before, when the persecution under Decius was proclaimed, Sabinus at that very hour sent a frumentarius to search for me. I stayed at home four days, expecting the frumentarius to come. But he went round searching everywhere, the rivers, the roads, the fields, where he suspected I was hiding or walking, but was struck with blindness and did not find the house; for he did not believe that I, being pursued, would stay at home.
