αὕτη γοῦν τὰ μὲν πρῶτα λόγοις ἱκετεύουσα τῆς περὶ αὐτὸν μητρικῆς διαθέσεως φειδὼ λαβεῖν παρεκάλει, σφοδρότερον δʼ ἐπιτείναντα θεασαμένη, ὅτε γνοὺς ἁλόντα τὸν πατέρα δεσμωτηρίῳ φυλάττεσθαι, ὅλος ἐγίνετο τῆς περὶ τὸ μαρτύριον ὁρμῆς, τὴν πᾶσαν αὐτοῦ ἀποκρυψαμένη ἐσθῆτα οἴκοι μένειν ἀνάγκην ἐπῆγεν.

English · Claude translation

She at first entreated him with words to spare his mother's feelings; but when she saw him more intent, since on learning that his father had been arrested and was held in prison he was wholly carried away by the impulse toward martyrdom, she hid all his clothes and so compelled him to stay at home.
