ταῦτα δὲ καὶ ἕτερα πλείω λέγων θάρ σους καὶ χαρᾶς ἐνεπίμπλατο, καὶ τὸ πρόσωπον αυ τοῦ χάριτος ἐπληροῦτο, ὥστε μὴ μόνον μὴ συμπε “σεῖν ταραχθέντα ὑπὸ τῶν λεγομένων πρὸς αὐτὸν “ἀλλὰ τοὐναντίαν τὸν ἀνθύπατον ἐκστῆναι, πέμψα “ τε τὸν κήρυκα καὶ ἐν μέσῳ τῷ σταδίῳ κηρῦξαι τρὶ Πολύκαρπος ὡμολόγησεν ἑαυτὸν Χριστιανὸν εἶναι “

Saying these and many other things, he was filled with courage and joy, and his face was full of grace, so that not only did he not collapse, troubled by what was said to him, but on the contrary the proconsul was amazed, and sent the herald to proclaim three times in the midst of the stadium: ‘Polycarp has confessed himself to be a Christian.’
