μάλιστα δὲ τῶν κατʼ ἐκεῖνο καιροῦ Ἰουδαίων παρὰ μόνοις τοῖς ὁμοεθνέσιν, ἀλλὰ καὶ παρὰ ῾Ρωμαίοις γέγονεν ἀνὴρ ἐπιδοξότατος, ὡς αὐτὸν μὲν ἀναθέσει ἀνδριάντος ἐπὶ ῾Ρωμαίωντιμηθῆναι πόλεως, τοὺς δὲ σπουδασθέντας αὐτῷ λόγους βιβλιοθήκρας ἀξιωθῆναι.

He became the most famous of the Jews of that time, not only among his own countrymen but also among the Romans, so that he was honoured by the setting up of a statue in the city of the Romans, and the works he had laboured over were thought worthy of a place in the library.
