τοτὲ δὲ ὡς περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ “ἔσται γὰρ ἀνάγκη μεγάλη ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ ὀργὴ τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ. καὶ πεσοῦνται ἐν στόματι μαχαίρας καὶ αἰχμαλωτισθήσονται εἰς πάντα τὰ ἔθνη· καὶ Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἔσται πατουμένη ὑπὸ τῶν ἐθνῶν, ἄχρις οὗ πληρωθῶσι καιροὶ ἐθνῶν.” καὶ πάλιν “ὅταν δὲ ἴδητε κυκλουμένην ὑπὸ στρατοπέδων τὴν Ἰερουσαλὴμ, τότε γνῶτε ὅτι ἤγγικεν ἡ ἐρήμωσις αὐτῆς.”

And at another time, as concerning the people: “For there will be great distress on the earth and wrath on this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the nations until the times of the nations are fulfilled.” And again: “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.”
