δεινὰς δὲ βασάνων ὁδοὺς ἐπε- ‘νόουν πρὸς ἔρευναν τροφῆς, ὀρόβοις μὲν ἐμφράττοντες τοῖς ἀθλίοις τοὺς τῶν αἰδοίων πόρους, ῥάβδοις δὲ ὀξείαις ἀναπείροντες τὰς ἔδρας. τὰ φρικτὰ δὲ καὶ ‘ἀκοαῖς ἔπασχέ τις εἰς ἐξομολόγησιν ἑνὸς ἄρτου καὶ “ἔνα μηνύσῃ δράκα μίαν κεκρυμμένην ἀλφίτων.

They devised terrible ways of torture in their search for food, stopping the passages of the private parts of the wretches with bitter vetch and piercing their seats with sharp stakes.
