βρέφος, εἶπεν, ἄθλιον, ἐν πολέμῳ καὶ λιμῷ καὶ ‘στάσει, τίνι σε τηρῶ; τὰ μὲν παρὰ Ῥωμαίοις δου- ῾ʼλεία, κἂν ζήσωμεν ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς, φθάνει δὲ καὶ δου- “λείαν ὁ λιμὸς, οἱ στασιασταὶ δὲ ἀμφοτέρων χαλεπώ- “τεροι. ἴθι, γενοῦ μοι τροφὴ, καὶ τοῖς στασιασταῖς “ἐρινὺς, καὶ τῷ βίῳ μῦθος, ὁ μόνος ἐλλείπων ταῖς “Ἰουδαίων συμφοραῖς.

she said, ‘Wretched baby, in war and famine and sedition, for whom shall I keep you? With the Romans there is slavery, even if we live to come to them; but famine is before slavery, and the rebels are harsher than both. Come, be food for me, an avenging fury to the rebels, and a tale to the world, the only one still lacking to the calamities of the Jews.’
