ταύτης τὴν “μὲν ἄλλην κτῆσιν οἱ τύραννοι διήρπασαν, ὅσην ἐκ “πόλιν, Περαίας ἀνασκευασαμένη μετήνεγκεν εἰς τὴν “πόλιν, τὰ δὲ λείψανα τῶν κειμηλίων κἂν εἴ τι τρο- “φῆς ἐπινοηθείη, καθʼ ἡμέραν εἰσπηδῶντες ἥρπαζον ‘οἱ δορυφόροι. δεινὴ δὲ τὸ γύναιον ἀγανάκτησις εἰσ- “ῄει, καὶ πολλάκις λοιδοροῦσα καὶ καταρωμένη τὸ “ἅρπαγας ἐφʼ ἑαυτὴν ἠρέθιζεν.

English · Claude translation

The tyrants had plundered the rest of her property, whatever she had packed up and brought from Peraea into the city; and the remains of her treasures, and any food she had devised, the guards burst in daily and seized. A terrible indignation came over the woman, and by often reviling and cursing the robbers she provoked them against herself.
