καὶ ὁ Πολύκαρπος δὲ τούτων αὐτῶν μέμνηται ἐν τῇ φερομένῃ αὐτοῦ πρὸς Φιλιππησίους ἐπιστολῇ, φάσκων αὐτοῖς ῥήμασι “ παρακαλῶ “ πάντας ὑμᾶς πειθαρχεῖν καὶ ἀσκεῖν πᾶσαν ὑπομο- ‘νὴν, ἣν εἴδετε κατʼ ὀφθαλμοὺς οὐ μόνον ἐν τοῖ “μακαρίοις Ἰγνατίῳ καὶ Ῥούφῳ καὶ Ζωσίμῳ, ἀλλα “ καὶ ἐν ἄλλοις τοῖς ἐξ ὑμῶν, καὶ ἐν αὐτῷ Παύλφ “καὶ τοῖς λοιποῖς ἀποστόλοις, πεπεισμένους ὅτι οὗτο “πάντες οὐκ εἰς κενὸν ἔδραμον, ἀλλʼ ἐν πίστει κα “ δικαιοσύνῃ, καὶ ὅτι εἰς τὸν ὀφειλόμενον αὐτοῖς το “πον εἰσὶ παρὰ κυρίῳ, ᾧ καὶ συνέπαθον. οὐ γὰ “ τὸν νῦν ἠγάπησαν αἰῶνα, ἀλλὰ τὸν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἄπο “θανόντα καὶ διʼ ἡμᾶς ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀναστάντα.”
