εἶτα ὁ μὲν ἀπῇρεν ἐπὶ τὴν Ἔφεσον, ὁ δὲ πρεσβύτερος ἀναλαβὼν οἴκαδε τὸν παραδοθέντα νεανίσκον ἔτρεφε, συνεῖχεν, ἔθαλπε, τὸ τελευταῖον ἐφώτισε. καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο “ὑφῆκε τῆς πλείονος ἐπιμελείας καὶ παραφυλακῆς, ὡς “τὸ τέλειον αὐτῷ φυλακτήριον ἐπιστήσας τὴν σφρα– “γῖδα τοῦ κυρίον.

Then John departed for Ephesus, and the presbyter, taking home the young man entrusted to him, brought him up, kept him close, cherished him, and at last baptized him. After this he relaxed his greater care and watchfulness, as having set over him the perfect safeguard, the seal of the Lord.
