Ἀλλὰ γὰρ Γάϊον οὐδʼ ὅλοις τέτταρσιν ἔτεσι τὴν ἀρχὴν διακατασχόντα Κλαύδιος αὐτοκράτωρ διαδέχεται. καθʼ ὃν λιμοῦ τὴν οἰκουμένην πιέσαντος, τοῦτο δὲ καὶ οἱ πόρρω τοῦ καθʼ ἡμᾶς λόγου συγγραφεἵς ταῖς αὐτῶν ἱστορίαις παρέδοσαν), ἡ κατὰ τὰς Πραξεῖς τῶν ἀποστόλων Ἀγά βου προφήτου περὶ τοῦ μέλλειν ἔσεσθαι λιμὸν ἐφʼ ὅλην τὴν οἰκουμένην πέρας ἐλάμβανε πρόρρησις.

But Gaius, having held power not quite four years, was succeeded by the emperor Claudius. In his time, when famine pressed hard on the world (and writers far removed from our teaching have recorded this in their histories), the prediction of the prophet Agabus in the Acts of the Apostles, that there would be a famine over the whole world, was fulfilled.
