εἶτα πάλιν ἑξῆς περὶ τοῦ νέους αὐτοὺς ποιεῖσθαι ψαλμοὺς οὕτως γράφει “ ὥστʼ οὐ θεωροῦσι μόνον, “ ἀλλὰ καὶ ποιοῦσιν ᾄσματα καὶ ὕμνους εἰς τὸν θεὸν διὰ παντοίων μέτρων καὶ μελῶν, ῥυθμοῖς σεμνο- ‘τέροις ἀναγκαίως χαράσσοντες.’’

Then again, next, about their composing new psalms, he writes thus: “So that they not only contemplate, but also compose songs and hymns to God in all kinds of metres and melodies, which they necessarily set in more solemn rhythms.”
