τί με δεῖ νῦν τῆς πανσόφου καὶ ἀρχιτεκτονικῆς διατάξεως καὶ τοῦ κάλλους τῆς ἐφʼ ἑκάστου μέρους ὑπερβολῆς ἀκριβολογεῖσθαι τὴν ὑφήγησιν, ὅτε τῆς ὄψεως τὴν διὰ τῶν ὤτων ἀποκλείει μάθησιν ἡ μαρτυρία; ἀλλὰ γὰρ ὧδε καὶ τὸν νεὼν ἐπιτελέσας, θρόνοις τε τοῖς ἀνωτάτω εἰς τὴν τῶν προέδρων τιμὴν, καὶ προσέτι βάθροις ἐν τάξει τοῖς καθʼ ὅλου κατὰ τὸ πρέπον κοσμήσας, ἐφʼἅπασί τε τὸ τῶν ἁγίων ἅγιον θυσιαστήριον ἐν μέσῳ θεὶς, αὖθις καὶ τάδε, ὡς ἂν εἴη τοῖς πολλοῖς ἄβατα, τοῖς ἀπὸ ξύλου περιέφραττε δικτύοις, εἰς ἄκρον ἐντέχνου λεπτουργίας ἐξησκημένοις, ὡς θαυμάσιον τοῖς ὁρῶσι παρέχειν τὴν θέαν.

Why need I now give a detailed account of the all-wise architectural arrangement and the surpassing beauty of each part, when the testimony of sight excludes learning through the ears? Having thus completed the temple, he adorned it with thrones placed very high in honor of the presiding clergy, and also with benches in order throughout the whole, as was fitting; and in the midst of all he placed the altar, the holy of holies, and again, so that it might be inaccessible to the many, he fenced it about with wooden latticework, wrought to the height of skilled fine workmanship, so as to present a wonderful sight to those who see it.
