Thus we shall find Jacob and Heli to be brothers by the same mother, though of two different families. Of these, Jacob, when his brother Heli died childless, took his wife and begot by her a third, Joseph: by nature his own son, and by reckoning; hence it is written, “And Jacob begot Joseph.” But by law he was the son of Heli; for Jacob, being his brother, raised up seed to him.
