μισεῖ τὴν ψυχὴν ἡ σὰρξ καὶ πολεμεῖ μηδὲν ἀδικουμένη, διότι ταῖς ἡδοναῖς κωλύεται χρῆσθαι· μισεῖ καὶ Χριστιανοὺς ὁ κόσμος μηδὲν ἀδικούμενος, ὅτι ταῖς ἡδοναῖς ἀντιτάσσονται.

The flesh hates the soul and wars against it, though it has suffered no wrong, because it is prevented from indulging in pleasures; the world also hates the Christians, though it has suffered no wrong, because they oppose its pleasures.
