ὡς οὖν οὐκ ὄντας ἐποίησεν, οὕτως καὶ γενομένους σῴζει τῇ ἰδίᾳ χάριτι, ἐὰν ἄξιοι καὶ ἐπιτήδειοι φανῶμεν, εἰ δὲ μή, παρήσει πρὸς τὸ οἰκεῖον τέλος· »καὶ γὰρ ζώντων ἐστὶ καὶ νεκρῶν κύριος.«

English · Claude translation

As, then, he made us when we did not exist, so, once we have come to be, he saves us by his own grace, if we show ourselves worthy and fit; but if not, he will let us go to our own end. “For he is Lord of the living and the dead.”
