Victorinus of Pettau

Victorinus Poetovionensis

Victorinus of Pettau was a bishop in Pannonia and the earliest known Latin biblical commentator. His Commentary on the Apocalypse, the oldest surviving Latin commentary on Revelation, was later revised by Jerome, who removed its millenarian elements; the unrevised text survives in a single manuscript. He died a martyr in the persecution of Diocletian.
