Cyril of Jerusalem

Κύριλλος Ἱεροσολύμων · Cyrillus Hierosolymitanus

Cyril was bishop of Jerusalem for most of the years 349 to 386, though three times driven from his see. His Catechetical Lectures, given in Jerusalem to baptismal candidates in Lent, explain the baptismal creed clause by clause. Five further Mystagogical Catecheses, given to the newly baptized in Easter week, explain baptism, anointing, and the Eucharist; their authorship has sometimes been questioned, with John of Jerusalem proposed instead.
