διὰ ταύτην γὰρ τὴν αἰτίαν οὐκ ἔστιν εὑρεῖν ἄνθρωπον, οἵτινες παράγουσι φόβους ἀνθρωπίνους, προῃρημένοι μᾶλλον τὴν ἐνθάδε ἀπόλαυσιν ἢ τὴν μέλλουσαν ἐπαγγελίαν.

For this reason it is not possible for a man to find it: they bring in human fears, preferring the enjoyment here to the promise to come.

## Translation notes

- The Greek of this sentence is difficult and probably damaged (“a man… they”); editors propose various corrections. The sense seems to be that those who spread fear and love present pleasure cannot find peace.
