οὐχ ἧττον καὶ ἡ τελεία κατὰ πίστιν Ἐσθὴρ κινδύνῳ ἑαυτὴν παρέβαλεν, ἵνα τὸ ἔθνος τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ μέλλον ἀπολέσθαι ῥύσηται· διὰ γὰρ τῆς νηστείας καὶ τῆς ταπεινώσεως αὐτῆς ἠξίωσεν τὸν παντεπόπτην δεσπότην τῶν αἰώνων· ὃς ἰδὼν τὸ ταπεινὸν τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτῆς ἐρύσατο τὸν λαόν, ὧν χάριν ἐκινδύνευσεν.

## English translation (Claude)

No less did Esther, perfect in faith, expose herself to danger to rescue the nation of Israel when it was about to perish; for through her fasting and humiliation she entreated the all-seeing Master of the ages, who, seeing the humility of her soul, rescued the people for whose sake she had put herself at risk.
